A Jersey Bulls footballers says "the lads got me through it" after he broke his leg in two places.
Harry Curtis, 26, suffered the injury following a tackle as the team played Abbey Rangers in the UK.
Curtis had to stay in the country to have surgery on his leg which ruled him out for the rest of the season.
But he said he would be "rooting for them" as Jersey Bulls look to win the Combined Counties Premier South with a victory at Springfield later.
Curtis is now able to walk again freely and is hopeful of returning to the pitch when his rehabilitation is complete.
He said: "You think this wouldn't happen to you. It was a really nasty one but it was almost harder for the lads to take than me, because it's tough to see that."
Curtis is planning to cheer on the Jersey Bulls from the stands when they play Sandhurst Town knowing a victory would win the league and seal promotion.
"I'm so proud of them and that's what we deserve – it's been such a squad effort this season," he added.
Toby Ritzema, a fellow Jersey Bulls player, was watching the game on a live stream when Curtis was injured.
He said: "You could see the reaction from all the lads. Everyone was just messaging, thinking how horrific it was."
Ritzema added: "You're doing it for the fans, doing it for the club, doing it for yourself but I think it's given us that extra motivation to do it for him (Curtis) because he deserves that league title."
The main stand for the game has already sold out with more than 1,500 supporters expected to be at Springfield to cheer on the Jersey Bulls.
